End Citizens United and Let America Vote Endorse Slate of Women Candidates in North Carolina
All four candidates are running for Congress to root out corruption and fight to protect the right to vote
End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Deborah Ross (NC-02), Kathy Manning (NC-06), Patricia Timmons-Goodson (NC-08) and Cynthia Wallace (NC-09) for Congress in North Carolina. All four women support critical legislation like the For the People Act, the most sweeping anti-corruption and reform bill since Watergate, and are fighting to protect all North Carolinians’ safe and fair access to the ballot.
“Deborah Ross, Kathy Manning, Patricia Timmons-Goodson and Cynthia Wallace will work to make government more accountable and transparent to North Carolina families,” said ECU and LAV President Tiffany Muller. “These four women will fight against the voting rights crisis that the Republican Party has propped up in North Carolina through district maps and shameful voter identification laws for decades. We’re proud to endorse Ross, Manning, Timmons-Goodson and Wallace who will bring leadership that the Tar Heel State deserves.”
“I’ve spent my career fighting for equality, justice and progress. As a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, I led efforts to bring ethics reform and transparency to state government. In Congress, I will continue to push for campaign finance reform and work to protect voting rights for all Americans,” said Deborah Ross.
“I’ve spent 30 years as an attorney, community leader, and mother bringing people together to solve problems in North Carolina’s Sixth Congressional District, making this community a better place for all of us. In Congress, I will bring my record of getting things done to a broken Washington and fight to restore faith in our democracy,” said Kathy Manning.
“North Carolinians deserve an equal voice in our democracy, no matter what. From serving on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to becoming the first African-American woman on the Supreme Court of North Carolina, I understand the struggles we have faced as a nation and the progress that we now must protect. I have always fought to make sure that every vote has an equal voice in our democracy and will continue to do so in Congress,” said Patricia Timmons-Goodson.
“North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District has experienced first-hand efforts to buy our elections and rob us of our right to vote. As a leader in the community and the North Carolina Democratic Party, I have fought for the most vulnerable, empowering everyday North Carolina families. My campaign for Congress is building a people-powered movement to continue that fight,” said Cynthia Wallace.
ECU and LAV recently merged to combat the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: Big Money and voter suppression. ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so that the government works for all Americans. LAV is building a grassroots effort to fight back against voter suppression and protect every American’s right to vote.
ECU and LAV will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. ECU has more than four million members nationwide, including 5,000 in NC-02, 5,300 in NC-06, 4,900 in NC-08, and 5,700 in NC-09. It is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14. In 2018, over 1,000 LAV grassroots volunteers knocked on over 340,000 doors, made 112,000 calls, and sent 341,000 texts to help elect 100 pro-democracy leaders.
