End Citizens United and Let America Vote Endorse Amy Kennedy for Congress in NJ-02

Kennedy is running a reform-focused campaign and rejecting both corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Amy Kennedy for Congress in New Jersey’s Second Congressional District. Kennedy is fighting for South Jersey families by making anti-corruption a central theme of her campaign, including rejecting both corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money. New Jersey’s Second Congressional District is represented by Jeff Van Drew who, in an act of political expediency, switched parties and pledged his loyalty to President Trump.

“As an educator and mental health advocate, Amy Kennedy has dedicated her career to the needs and well-being of South Jersey families,” said ECU and LAV President Tiffany Muller. “Amy has continued to put New Jersey first by putting government reform at the forefront of her campaign. From rejecting both corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money to rolling out a comprehensive plan to fight political corruption, Amy is building a grassroots movement of small donors to change Washington. We’re proud to endorse Amy Kennedy.”

“In order to get anything done in Washington, we need to get Big Money special interests out of politics,” said Amy Kennedy. “Special interests are standing in the way of everything we want to accomplish, from lowering drug prices and the cost of health insurance, to addressing gun violence and climate change. In Congress, I will fight for South Jersey families, not corporate lobbyists or political machines. I’m proud to have ECU and LAV’s endorsement, and I look forward to working with them to get our government working for the people.”

Amy Kennedy has made rooting out corruption in Washington the central theme of her campaign. Kennedy has pledged to support critical reform legislation in Congress like the For the People Act, the most comprehensive anti-corruption and reform legislation since Watergate. Kennedy also rolled out a plan to Fight Political Corruption, which includes working to overturn Citizens United and fighting to make our elections clean, free and fair.

bipartisan poll shows that a majority of voters see corruption in the political system as the most serious problem facing the country, especially among independents. The poll also finds that unlimited, undisclosed political contributions and the influence of big money in politics are seen as major problems.

End Citizens United and Let America Vote (LAV) recently merged to combat the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: Big Money and voter suppression. ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so that the government works for all Americans. LAV is building a grassroots effort to fight back against voter suppression and protect every American’s right to vote.

ECU and LAV will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. ECU has more than four million members nationwide, including 6,200 in New Jersey’s Second Congressional District, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14. In 2018, over 1,000 LAV grassroots volunteers knocked on over 340,000 doors, made 112,000 calls, and sent 341,000 texts to help elect 100 pro-democracy leaders.
