Seven Cities Join Let America Vote’s Cap, Gown, Vote! Program to Help High School Students Register to Vote

Mayors in seven cities today signed on to Let America Vote’s Cap, Gown, Vote! (CGV) Program, a nationwide effort to help high school students register to vote before they graduate. CGV launched in April in partnership with mayors in nine cities to help students register before the school year ended. There are now sixteen mayors working with CGV to raise awareness about this key civic responsibility and get more young people registered ahead of the 2018 elections.

“We’re growing the Cap, Gown Vote! Program because high school students are becoming more engaged in politics, and we want to make sure they’re able to express themselves when elections come around,” Let America Vote President Jason Kander said. “Mayors from around the country are showing their dedication to increasing civic engagement through programs like CGV. I’m excited to work together and make sure high schoolers are ready and registered when it’s time to vote in their first election.”

CGV works as a partnership between Let America Vote and participating mayors, who coordinate with high schools in their cities to identify student ambassadors. Those students then use the CGV online tool to help their peers register to vote.
