Let America Vote’s plan for the The Last Weekend: knock doors and win for voting-rights champions

Kansas City, MO — Let America Vote is proud to partner with more than 70 progressive groups in the coming days for The Last Weekend, a volunteer-driven effort to get out the vote for the critical 2018 midterm elections.

LAV is activating volunteers to knock doors and make phone calls for candidates in key legislative and statewide races across its five targeted states as well as connecting supporters nationwide with The Last Weekend’s GOTV drive – contributing to the effort’s overall goal of completing 1 million volunteer hours from Saturday through Election Day.

“Our mission and our resources align perfectly with The Last Weekend’s efforts to deliver meaningful, nationwide change for our country,” Let America Vote Executive Director Suzy Smith said. “We’ve spent months talking to voters and learning our turf. Now it’s time to turn folks out to vote.”

Let America Vote operates field offices in five states in support of pro-democracy candidates, and maintains a distributed organizing program that plugs passionate volunteers into critical races across the country. That infrastructure, encompassing Georgia, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and Tennessee, makes LAV an ideal partner to advance The Last Weekend’s mission of driving progressive turnout with grassroots activism.

For the Last Weekend, LAV’s state teams will keep up door-by-door voter contacts that began back in June. In states like Iowa, Nevada and Tennessee, that means knocking doors in flippable Republican-held legislative districts, while also texting voters and raising awareness for key statewide races.
