Let America Vote Supports Bicameral Resolution to Designate September “National Voting Rights Month”

Let America Vote is supporting a bicameral congressional resolution introduced by Congressman Marc Veasey (D-TX) and Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) that would designate September as “National Voting Rights Month.”

“The right to vote is the cornerstone of American democracy, and we should do everything we can to protect and expand that right for eligible Americans,” said Jason Kander, president of Let America Vote. “By designating a month to recognize the progress we’ve made and the work we have left to do, we draw vital attention to the ongoing struggle that began with the Civil Rights Movement.”

The resolution calls for increased efforts to register voters in the month of September and pushes Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Let America Vote joins the NAACP, National Organization for Women, Human Rights Campaign, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and more than 100 Members of Congress in support of the resolution.
