Knock Doors and Win: Let America Vote kicks off GOTV Door-Knocking Competition Saturday

Kansas City, MO — Volunteers in five states will compete to knock the most doors and reach the most voters this weekend in Let America Vote’s fall GOTV Door-Knocking Competition.

Dozens of activists in Georgia, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and Tennessee will target key legislative districts as they seek to support voting-rights champions on the 2018 ballot and create political consequences for vote-suppressing politicians. The team that racks up the most points — awarded for door knocks, phone calls and other voter-outreach throughout the weekend — wins bragging rights, while every volunteer gets the satisfaction of helping elect pro-democracy candidates to office.

The teams were led by celebrity captains Dulé Hill, Misha Collins and Kelly McCreary, all of whom recorded a video to cheer their volunteers on to victory.

Let America Vote knows in-person, one-on-one contacts by passionate volunteers is one of the best ways to engage voters ahead an election, which is why door-knocking is at the core of its model for political engagement. So far in 2018, Let America Vote has knocked on over 225,000 doors in our five states.

This weekend’s competition will super-charge those efforts, with that goal of driving midterm voter turnout to new heights in five critical states.

“Let America Vote’s specialty is direct voter contact,” LAV Executive Director Suzy Smith said. “We know from experience that these one-on-one conversations with voters will make a difference in the outcomes of elections across the country. When our teams compete, democracy wins.”

The fall door-knocking competition builds on the success of a similar contest last summer. Let America Vote interns and volunteers — led by celebrity captains Mandy Moore, Jon Favreau, Bradley Whitford, Connie Britton and Piper Perabo — attempted thousands of voter contacts across their five states.

Iowa won that contest, and will look to defend its crown this weekend.

In addition to the celebrity team captains, Let America Vote has developed a Knock Doors and Win 2018 playlist to get activists motivated this weekend and will deploy a real-time door-tracker to monitor the competition between the states.

Let America Vote will release new data on door-knocks and voter outreach and announce the winner of the fall GOTV Door-Knocking Competition early next week.
