Let America Vote Responds to Latest Federal Court Ruling Striking Down Voter ID Law

Kansas City, MO — A federal judge in Texas yesterday declared a voter photo identification law intentionally discriminatory, the latest in a nationwide trend that shows voter ID bills fail to stand up in court. In response to the ruling, Let America Vote President Jason Kander made the following statement on the clear trend of successful legal challenges against voter ID bills:

Every year, partisan politicians push these laws and every year, the courts push back and defend voters. Yesterday’s ruling in federal court once again shows that restrictive voter photo identification laws are discriminatory and unconstitutional. There are 19 states across the country  pursuing legislation to enact photo ID laws, with states like Iowa and North Dakota close to passing bills.

State Legislatures are wasting time and taxpayer money just to make it harder to vote, and it needs to stop. Hopefully with yet another ruling against them, legislators will see they will not get away with making it harder to vote in this country. And if they don’t, Let America Vote will make sure their constituents know about it.

Let America Vote launched in February 2017 to fight back against proposals across the country that make it harder for eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right to cast a ballot. Whether it’s extreme identification requirements, questionable purges of voter rolls, voter intimidation, new and extreme voter registration processes, or anything that makes voting harder, Let America Vote will be there to lead the way against it. Its president is Jason Kander, the former Missouri Secretary of State.
