Let America Vote Launches Radio Ad Supporting Virginia Governor’s Veto of Voter Suppression Law

Let America Vote began advertising this week in Virginia calling on the legislature to sustain Governor McAuliffe’s veto of House Bill 1428. The radio ad titled “Copier” encourages Virginians to call state representative Tag Greason (R-Potomac Falls) and tell him to oppose the law that requires absentee voters to mail in a copy of a state-issued photo ID.

“If you don’t work in a traditional office environment, it’s unlikely that you can easily make a photo copy of your ID,” said Jason Kander, president of Let America Vote. “Anyone voting absentee already has an obstacle to voting, and HB 1428 would create an obstacle to that obstacle. It’s classic voter suppression and Governor McAuliffe did the right thing by vetoing it. We should do everything possible to make voting easier, but the Republicans in Richmond are making it harder. Let America Vote is making sure they’re held accountable.”

Let America Vote launched in February 2017 to fight back against proposals across the country that make it harder for eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right to cast a ballot. Whether it’s extreme identification requirements, questionable purges of voter rolls, voter intimidation, new and extreme voter registration processes, or anything that makes voting harder, Let America Vote will be there to lead the way against it. Its president is Jason Kander, the former Missouri Secretary of State.
