Let America Vote Demands Answers from West Virginia Secretary of State Following Voter Roll Purge
Let America Vote today called on West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner to further explain the process by which his office purged nearly 52,000 voters from West Virginia’s voter rolls.
In an open records request, Let America Vote asked Secretary Warner for documents relating to the process his office used to cancel the voter registrations and who the office communicated with during the process. Let America Vote is also seeking a list of the voters whose registrations were canceled to ensure no voters improperly lost the ability to vote in West Virginia.
“If even one eligible voter’s rights are jeopardized by a voter roll purge, the whole process is unjustified,” said Jason Kander, President of Let America Vote. “States should have the most accurate voter lists possible, but that process should be fair and done carefully. West Virginians deserve transparency in the administration of the their elections, and we’re holding accountable the politicians who risk disenfranchising voters for electoral expediency.”
