The Detroit News Op-Ed: Gerrymandering decision a ‘crushing loss’ for fair elections

Michigan Democratic House Leader Christine Greig, member of Let America Vote’s Board of Advisors, wrote a guest column in The Detroit News discussing the drastic effects of the Supreme Court’s partisan gerrymandering decision

“Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. Free and fair elections give citizens their power over politicians. Free and fair elections require voters choose their elected officials. Yet, with partisan gerrymandering, politicians choose their voters. Partisan gerrymandering is voter suppression, plain and simple.

While the Supreme Court’s gerrymandering is a devastating blow to our democracy, it makes clear that the courts are not going to save us. The power is in the hands of the American people to not only take back our democracy, but to protect and advance it.”
