Let America Vote Announces Support for the Let NC Vote Act

Washington, D.C. — Let America Vote President Abe Rakov released the following statement on the Let NC Vote Act (House Bill 589) and Senate Bill 495:

“North Carolina has been a hotbed of voter suppression and gerrymandering, so it’s great to see legislators pushing pro-democracy policies to clean up elections in the state. This commonsense legislation would enact automatic, online, and Election Day registration, extend early voting opportunities, and require counties to provide voters with a free photo ID to comply with identification laws. By passing these bills, North Carolina lawmakers would prove to voters they are prioritizing making elections accessible, fair and secure.

Senators Mike Woodard, Ben Clark, and Paul Lowe, and Representatives Graig Meyer, Marcia Morey, Jean Farmer-Butterfield, and Joe John are standing up for their constituents by proactively working to protect North Carolina elections.”

Let America Vote is a national voting rights organization founded to fight back against proposals across the country that make it harder for eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right to cast a ballot. Whether it’s extreme identification requirements, questionable purges of voter rolls, voter intimidation, new and extreme voter registration processes, or anything that makes voting harder, Let America Vote will be there to lead the way against it.
