Let America Vote Statement on College Student Disenfranchisement Bill in New Hampshire

Following New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu’s signing of HB 1264, a bill aimed at stripping away voting rights from college students, Let America Vote Senior Policy Advisor Leigh Chapman made the following statement:

“Today, Gov. Sununu signed one of the most egregious and unnecessary voter-suppression bills in the country. HB 1264 effectively institutes a poll tax on college students who move to New Hampshire from out of state. This legislation makes no sense as public policy, but it will help Republicans win elections — which is Gov. Sununu and the GOP legislature’s true objective.

“Let America Vote is already on the ground in New Hampshire working to defeat politicians who try to block eligible voters from exercising their rights. That includes Gov. Sununu, whose re-election would be a worst-case scenario for voting rights in the Granite State.”
