Let America Vote Statement on Maine Voter ID Proposal

After Maine Governor Paul LePage proposed a voter ID bill that could disenfranchise thousands of Maine voters, Let America Vote President Jason Kander released the following statement:

“Republicans in Maine have tried and failed ten times since 1995 to pass a voter ID bill even though there have been zero recorded cases of voter impersonation fraud in the state. Governor LePage is termed out of his job, and since he doesn’t have to face the consequences of his actions, he can push an extreme and unnecessary law like voter ID without fear of repercussion. His actions are totally transparent and un-American, and he should be ashamed.”
