Let America Vote Launches Direct Voter Contact

Let America Vote is entering its next phase of voting-rights advocacy. Last weekend, Let America Vote launched its first direct voter contact operation of the 2018 campaign cycle, sending out teams to knock doors on behalf of pro-democracy candidates in Iowa.

More than 20 Let America Vote-Iowa volunteers, interns and staff knocked over 3,200 doors in the Des Moines metro area, Sioux City and Mason City. This weekend, that effort will go nationwide, with canvasses planned in Iowa, Tennessee, Nevada and New Hampshire.

“Let America Vote’s mission is to create political consequences for politicians who support voter suppression, and we do it by meeting voters where they are and making the case for our candidates one-on-one,” Let America Vote President Jason Kander said. “I’m excited to see our teams in action, and for the progress they’re going to make in electing voting-rights champions across the country.”

Let America Vote established offices in five states earlier this year, which will serve as the home bases for voter-canvassing operations aiding legislative and statewide candidates with a proven commitment to protecting voting rights.

This weekend in New Hampshire, Let America Vote will begin canvassing in the Manchester area, while in Nevada we’ll kick off direct voter contact efforts around the Las Vegas metro. Let America Vote’s Tennessee office will canvass in and around Nashville and Memphis, while Iowa’s efforts will expand to Scott County.

Earlier this week, Let America Vote’s Iowa State Director Zack Davis summed up the organization’s field-first philosophy in an op-ed for Iowa Starting Line:

“The work Let America Vote does is not fancy or flashy: It’s old-fashioned, street-by-street, block-by-block organizing,” Davis wrote. “Over the next five months, we’re going to have thousands of one-on-one conversations with Iowans on the importance of turning out in November and supporting candidates who believe in democracy and govern accordingly.”
