Let America Vote Names 10 Politicians to Voter Suppression Hall of Shame

Let America Vote today launched the Voter Suppression Hall of Shame, an evolving list of the country’s most active vote-suppressing politicians that Let America Vote will track in 2018 to fight back against any future efforts to make voting less accessible.

The list contains 10 politicians from nine different states whom either introduced or supported politically-motivated legislation that would prevent targeted groups of the electorate from voting. The goals of the Hall of Shame are to expose the politicians for suppressing votes, call attention to their next elections, and educate voters on how to hold them accountable.

“The first step in fighting voter suppression is calling out the politicians who make it happen,” Let America Vote President Jason Kander said. “These politicians hide behind lies about election integrity and voter fraud to create fear, which makes it easier for them to institute policies that roll back voting rights and make their own reelection campaigns easier. We’re exposing them as the first step to holding them accountable, and because they’ve worked to make voting more difficult and less inclusive, we’re going to make it harder for them to get elected.”

Politicians named to the Voter Suppression Hall of Shame include:

Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State
Brian Kemp, Georgia Secretary of State
John Merrill, Alabama Secretary of State
Paul Pate, Iowa Secretary of State
Connie Lawson, Indiana Secretary of State
Bob Thorpe,  Arizona State Representative
John Murante, Nebraska State Senator
Regina Birdsell and James Gray,  New Hampshire State Senators
Tim Moore, North Carolina State Representative

Additional politicians will be named to the Hall of Shame if they perpetrate voter suppression during 2018 state legislative sessions. Let America Vote will provide opportunities to nominate vote suppressers to the Hall of Shame and release additional information on how to fight back against specific voter suppression tactics as the list grows.
